TODDLERS ART & MUSIC
(AGES 2-4) Back to topRepetition is the name of the game with these little ones. Every class in each four-week session is the same. The parent receives an information sheet ahead of time, but while you’re in the class there will be very limited instruction. Your child will be DOING the activities the whole time you are here, rather than waiting and wasting valuable attention-span time while the adults are talking about what we are going to do! The class starts out by singing the hello song and then reading a story. Next we play with age-appropriate instruments, such as maracas, and practice important skills - like fast and slow, or go and stop. We sing and play fun songs and then do an art project. The class wraps up with free play/social time; then we sing the goodbye song.
This 45-minute, parent-inclusive class is intended for two- and three-year-olds; however, younger siblings are welcome. The cost is $60.00 per four-week session. Classes will run from September to June. -
YOUNG MUSICIANS
(AGES 4-6) Back to topMusical exploration is what this fun class is all about! We start with Composer of the Day, where I read about a particular composer and composition, and then the children color a picture while listening to the music. We then sing fun songs and play instruments together while working on basic music skills - such as when to play and when not to play, loud and quiet and fast and slow. Next, the children are introduced to a rhythm pattern. They work with the rhythm and beat materials, and are given a paper to take home and practice. We finish the class with the goodbye song. The Young Musicians class do a performance at the end of the school year.
This is a one-hour class intended for kids ages four to six. It starts in September and continues through June. The cost is $20.00 per lesson, payable monthly. Each child will receive a personalized bag full of instruments, a CD and a music book. There is a $50.00 one-time materials fee. Limit six students per class. -
GENERAL MUSIC
(AGES 6-9) Back to topInspiring a love of music and developing an understanding of its complex language is the focus of this class. The children will learn about and will play a wide variety of instruments, including recorder, hand bells and tone bars, woodwind and brass instruments, percussion, interesting world instruments and some silly instruments, such as Boom Whackers! Through group play, individual instruction and use of the music materials the children will gain a firm understanding of music notation. I do give extension activities to do at home, however "homework" and "practicing" is not a must. This is still a light-hearted, fun class. General Music students perform in the winter concert and spring concert.
This is a one-hour class intended for kids ages six to nine. It starts in September and continues through June. The cost is $25.00 per lesson, payable monthly. Each child will receive a personalized bag of instruments, a CD and a music book. There is a $50.00 one-time materials fee. There is a limit of six students per class and I would like to have the older students in one class and the younger students in the other. -
BEGINNING BAND
(AGES 8-10) Back to topLearning to play an instrument is tricky, but this class will make it fun as well. Beginning band students learn how to read and write music, care for and clean their instruments and produce nice sounds. Each child needs to have his or her own instrument: either a flute, saxophone, clarinet or trumpet. These instruments may be rented at a music store near you. If your child is not sure which instrument to select, sign up for the beginning band prep class in August. Each child will have the opportunity to try out the flute, the saxophone, the clarinet and the trumpet to see which one he or she likes best! Beginning band students need to be at least eight years old (or entering thirrd grade) and be physically big enough to hold their instrument of choice.
This 1.5 hour class will be divided in to four groups (flute, sax, clarinet and trumpet) and is limited to six students per group. The cost is $35.00 per lesson, payable monthly. Classes begin in September and continue through June. The beginning band will perform several small recitals, plus a winter concert and spring concert. It's important for beginners to spend 10 to 20 minutes a day, four to six days a week, on home practice. -
BAND I & II
(AGES 9-12) Back to topLots of fun music in a wide verity of styles is what motivates these students to play more often, and therefore, progress! In this Montessori-style band class, we learn to read and write more complex rhythms, extend our range and improve tone quality. These students will perform several small recitals throughout the year, plus a winter concert and spring concert. Band I students need to have one to three years of experience on their instrument; Band II students need to have two to four years of experience. Auditions for placement will be held in August.
This 1.5 hour class is limited to six students. The cost is $35.00 per lesson, payable monthly. Classes begin in September and continue through June. Band I and II students are expected to spend 20 to 30 minutes a day, three to five days a week, on home practice.
